Mitsubishi Electric Cooling & Heating Systems Named Top-10 Green Building Product for 2012
Friday, October 07, 2011
SUWANEE, Ga., October 7, 2011 - Mitsubishi Electric Cooling & Heating's (Mitsubishi Electric's) line of residential and commercial split-ductless and Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) zoning systems has been selected as one of BuildingGreen's Top-10 products for 2012 by the editors of Environmental Building News and GreenSpec®. This 10th annual award recognizes the most innovative and exciting green building products added to the GreenSpec directory or featured in Environmental Building News during the past year. (Both publications are owned by BuildingGreen, Inc.)
"Our selections of the Top-10 Green Building Products represent a wide range of product types in many different application areas," says Alex Wilson, BuildingGreen founder and executive editor of GreenSpec. "Many of our Top-10 products this year have multiple environmental attributes."
BuildingGreen's Top-10 product selections for 2012 were drawn from the more than 170 new products added to the company's GreenSpec Product Directory during the past year. "New products are being introduced all the time, making it a challenge for our staff to keep up," continues Wilson. Both Mitsubishi Electric's split-ductless heat pumps and VRF zoning systems were chosen as winners this year.
"Mitsubishi Electric is honored to be recognized by BuildingGreen for our continued efforts to produce energy-efficient and environmentally friendly products," says Marc Zipfel, director of product marketing, Mitsubishi Electric. "Our residential and commercial cooling and heating solutions offer simple installation, superior flexibility and unparalleled performance."
Mitsubishi Electric products offer several environmental benefits. The residential M-series features ENERGY STAR®-qualified models with SEER ratings as high as 26, and several models are available with Mitsubishi Electric's Hyper-Heating (H2i®) technology - allowing notable heating performance operation at outside temperatures as low as minus 13 degrees Fahrenheit.
A big driver in the development of green products continues to be the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED® Rating System (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), which awards points for the use of certain product types or for the energy or water savings that certain green products can achieve. For multifamily, light commercial/commercial and industrial applications, Mitsubishi Electric's VRF zoning systems help buildings earn LEED® points by featuring a controls network that offers individual zone control as well as buildingwide temperature and energy usage monitoring.
The VRF systems were chosen specifically for their use of a control tenant billing function of the TG-2000 coupled with an RS-485 WHM Monitor which allows a single VRF outdoor unit to serve many indoor units, with total electricity consumption apportioned according to the heated or chilled air delivered by the indoor units for separate billing to tenants. These systems supply efficient cooling and heating for residential and commercial applications and are comprised of air-source outdoor units, or water-source units, and indoor air-handling units with remote and centralized controllers, all tied together in a proprietary network.
Both residential and commercial systems use environmentally friendly R410A refrigerant, are made of mostly recyclable parts and feature an INVERTER-driven compressor that provides only the exact amount of energy needed to reach the zone's set temperature, thereby reducing energy consumption.
